ABOUT SOUTH BELFAST YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The South Belfast Youth League was established in 1969 initially with 45 teams in 3 age groups, since then the league membership has grown and now offers 6 age groups from U12 to U18 with an annual membership of approximately 140 teams.

John Cassidy who was involved with coaching the younger Aquinas FC team, along with a few others decided to form a league of their own and In October 1969 the South Belfast Boys League was formed. As it was too late for the newly formed league to secure pitches their initial matches were played upon the large grassy tracts alongside the existing pitches at Ormeau Park with coats, jumpers or whatever was available used as goals.

The South Belfast Youth Football League run from U10-U19s Boys and Girls.

The League has gone from strength to strength from these humble beginnings and has seen our membership grow in the last 10 Years with us Now being the biggest league in Northern Ireland

We are also first league ever to have a full girls competitive League and cup.

The League also have SBYFL select teams at different age groups.
